Here We Go Again!

ela's seal
Although I have not been updating the site recently I have been pressing on with researching the medieval period, particularly around Ela, 3rd Countess of Salisbury.

I think I must have read upwards of twenty-five books covering the period over the winter months, some of them several times, as my understanding of the events grew. This, of course means that the Bibliography is hopelessly out of date. I will leave it in place for the moment and update it as I go along, rather than try to tackle it in one go.

One of the things that I am convinced about now, is the seduction of Ela by King John. There are never going to be any first person witnesses to such an event, but there is simply lots and lots of circumstantial evidence. Even the French Court were convinced that this was the reason that Ela's husband, William Longespée switched to the rebel baron's cause and thereby supporting King Philip Augustus' son, Louis.

Needless to say, there will be a lot more about this later.

In the meantime, I have had a bit of a springclean on the site. This news section/blog has been moved into a separate 'blog' section. This new section also has an old 1232 blog from several years ago embedded and which I now intend to resurrect.
